Behavioral Interviewing
After mastery of this course, you will be able to:
- Assess the business and personal impact of selection decisions.
- Identify and reduce bias and error in the selection process.
- Plan a selection strategy including prescreening methods to efficiently hire the right candidates.
- Identify the skills needed for the job and the organization and develop interview questions based on those skills.
- Conduct a structured, legally defensible, behaviorally-based interview to gain information about job skills.
- Sell the opportunity to the candidate and make selection decisions by rating candidate skills.
Fermilab Management Practices Seminar (FMP)
(Formerly Supervisory Development)
This seminar provides you with the tools for effective human resource management. This includes an understanding of the current laws involved with people management; how to select and interview candidates for employment; and how to manage the performance management cycle. Topics include: goal setting, key principles of effective communication, and learning and practicing a discussion model for coaching success, coaching for performance improvement, managing performance problems, and conducting performance reviews. The seminar concludes with a series of presentations by subject matter experts from key HR and functional departments.
Interaction Management
Learn the essential skills and discussion guidelines for effective coaching through practice and feedback in four modules:
- Core Skills for Building Commitment: Learn interaction skills that help you achieve critical objectives; understand how feedback can be an effective leadership tool; practice interaction skills and receive feedback.
- Coaching for Success: Recognize opportunities to build your work group's knowledge, skills, and confidence by providing proactive coaching that prepares people for success. Learn the elements of ongoing coaching: observing performance and measuring results, and providing timely feedback and support.
- Coaching for Improvement: Use a discussion planner to prepare a step-by-step approach for discussing improvement. Use the STAR technique to provide specific, balanced feedback to people working to improve performance.
- Managing Performance Problems: Learn how to coach employees who have chronic performance problems and how Fermilab policies and procedures can assist you in this process.
Managing within the Law
Understand employees' rights and managers' responsibilities under the law. Develop skills and learn best practices for managing employees within the law. Learn when to seek expert assistance from Human Resources.Sexual Harassment Training for FNAL Managers and Supervisors
Become more proactive in eliminating sexual discrimination from the workplace. This course includes a discussion of sexual harassment discrimination, examples of sexual harassment behavior, and a review of Fermilab's policy on sexual harassment.
